The Tunnel Kit is based around recordings made inside and around a tunnel. During recording, impulse responses were also made of the tunnel. These impulse responses were then used via convolution to apply the sonic traits of the tunnel onto the sounds recorded there. The sample kit contains the following and is available for download below:

  • 58 individual sounds
  • 26 sound percussion kit
  • two impulse responses from inside the tunnel

Like all sound kits from alivemachine, the samples in the Tunnel Kit were individually chosen for their unique characteristics and potential for further sound design. Both original recordings and processed sounds are included to offer a high level of flexibility in creating new sounds. The Tunnel Kit can be heard in action on Track 5 of The Tunnel EP, an album available on alivemachine.com.

All of the sounds of the knife kit originate from a metal heating unit being struck with an assortment knives. Once recorded, the sounds were then processed with various effects including granular synthesis. The resulting samples maintain the original metallic characteristics while sonically transcending the original sound source. The Knife-Kit includes:

  • 25 individual sounds
  • original field recordings and processed versions
  • range of metallic timbres including percussion and drone

Each sound in the Knife-Kit was chosen for it’s unique characteristics and potential to inspire. Some of the original source recordings are also included as another tool for creating new samples. The Bio-Kit combines palm tree leaves with granular synthesis to create a unique set of SFX. All audio originated from dried up palm tree leaves being scraped with a stick. The sounds were recorded in high quality with a condenser mic inside an iso booth. Once captured, the sounds were processed via granular synthesis to bring out entirely new, yet still related timbres. Some features of the kit are as follows:

  • 30 individual sounds
  • unique range of synthetic timbres based on natural sources
  • no additional EQ or compression added
